INTRODUCTION:

Assam is a State in India situated in the North Eastern region.  It is known world wide for its eternal natural beauty, wildlife, Tea Plantation, Silk, and Historical as well as archeological sites. Dispur is the capital of this state situated in Guwahati, the biggest city of this region. Its Neighboring states are Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. It also shares India's  international border with Bhutan and Bangladesh.

According to some intellectuals, the name "Assam" has been derived from "Ahom Dynasty", Some other intellectuals accept that Assam has been derived from Sanskrit word "Asama" which means un-equalled. The Mughals used to say "Asham".
